Why is Being Kind Is Better Than Being Right?
Why are people so quick to point out what’s wrong with a person or a situation—without knowing the full truth?
Let’s be honest: we are all guilty of judging others without knowing the whole story. Sometimes, we even argue with others because, deep down, we believe we’re right. But ask yourself this: how do you actually feel after proving someone wrong? Do you truly feel happy?
Let’s not be hypocrites. Every day, we are faced with choices that can either bring joy or negativity into our lives. Naturally, we want to avoid bad vibes and negative mindsets. After all, who wants to have a bad day? Still, no matter how we try to stay positive, life throws tests our way—through people, circumstances, or even gossip. Yet, in all these moments, we still have the power to choose kindness.
F. Scott Fitzgerald once said, "To be kind is more important than to be right. Many times, what people need is not a brilliant mind that speaks, but a special heart that listens." And it’s true. No one likes being wrong. But fighting just to prove your point often doesn’t help you “win” anything. Instead, try to calm down and approach others with an open heart. Listening doesn’t make you weak—it shows strength, patience, and empathy.
It’s not always about you. Everyone carries their own struggles and battles. When you're in the middle of an argument, pause, listen, and try to put yourself in the other person’s shoes. You may believe you're right, but proving someone wrong doesn’t make you a hero. What helps more is guiding others toward understanding, not forcing it. Remember, not everyone processes situations the same way.
If you're one of the few who can see the bigger picture, be patient. I know it's not easy—but try. And if your kindness isn’t appreciated or your efforts to understand are rejected, then it’s okay to let go. You’ve done your part. You've given them the opportunity to reflect and grow. That in itself is a powerful act of kindness.
Kindness is a choice we can make at any moment. Each kind act, no matter how small, has the power to positively impact others. It’s contagious. It transforms how we see ourselves and how others see us.
Life gives us thousands of chances and choices. Let’s not waste them. Choose kindness. Lead with it.
